What does F.I.R.S.T. stand for?
At the heart of consent is one simple truth:
Without mutual, informed agreement, there is no consent.
Each F.I.R.S.T. card represents an essential ingredient of a good agreement:
Freely given – No pressure or force.
Informed – Everyone understands what they’re agreeing to.
Responsive – Consent is context specific and can change at any time.
Specific – Clear about who, what, when, where and why.
‘Talked’ about – Agreement is communicated clearly.
When all five ingredients are present, you’ve got a good agreement.

“We played this as a family with our two teenage daughters – who, as you might expect, weren’t exactly thrilled about playing a “parent game.” But to our surprise, they actually enjoyed it. Even better, it sparked a meaningful conversation about the kinds of behaviours that can lead to someone not feeling in agreement. The cards are fun and engaging, and the game offered a gentle way to talk about something that’s usually hard to bring up.” Sarah, Parent
